Exploring Bunaken: Dives, Divisions, and Comforts

Diving Experience in Bunaken

Our recent trip to Bunaken Island, North Sulawesi, involved exploring 15 dive sites, with 14 around Bunaken and one off Siladen Island. Wall diving was the predominant focus due to clear visibility, allowing videographers to capture marine life and coral formations. Green turtles were a highlight in Bunaken’s waters.

Video Editing and Dive Sections

For video editing purposes, we divided Bunaken into four sections: southern walls, southeastern walls and slopes, eastern walls, and northern walls and slopes. Siladen Island, placed in the northern category, could also fit with the eastern walls. This segmentation aimed to capture the distinct features of each area in our visual storytelling.

Southern Dive Sites Preference

Reviewing our footage, the southern dive sites, including the southeastern stretches of the eastern wall, stood out as the most visually appealing. These areas showcased dramatic underwater landscapes, rich marine life, and were frequented by green turtles. Considering a return, a focus on these southern sites was favored.

Accommodation at Two Fish

Our stay at Two Fish in Bunaken provided a satisfactory, albeit somewhat rustic, diving experience. The dive guides were knowledgeable, and the location offered short boat rides. However, for future visits with a spouse, a more upscale accommodation might be considered. The rugged charm of Two Fish, coupled with the occasional challenges of low tide treks through mangroves, could be exchanged for a more comfortable and luxurious setting.
